Many of you may have a new pet in the house since Christmas. Here are some useful tips for housetraining puppies and kittens:
Pups:
- Supervise your dog
-watch out for toileting clues
- Create a schedule
-regular trips outside,with toileting in same area
- Reward good behaviour
-give treats immediately when you get the desired behaviours
- Remember, accidents happen
-dont punish your dog,be patient
Kittens:
- Place litter box away from bed
-quiet,private location
- Empty tray regularly
-cats are reluctant to use a dirty tray
- Use several litter boxes if you have several cats
-each cat will then have ample opportunity to use one
- Experiment with different types of litter
-some cats have litter preferences
- Reward good behaviour
-positive reinforcement will encourage behaviours
