Kennel Cough: For those of you heading off for a few days and leaving your dogs in kennels: it is advisable to have the kennel cough vaccine up to date. Kennel cough is a virus causes a nasty deep honking cough most commonly acquired when naive unvaccinated dogs integrate with other dogs. The vaccine is a live vaccine and for optimal protection needs to be administered 2 weeks prior to visiting the kennels.
Arthritis: A common phenomenom with older cats and dogs. Early signs include a reluctance to go on walks, difficulty rising and lameness especially in the mornings or after prolonged recumbancy. Don’t assume it is normal old age and nothing can be done. Medical therapy and management can stifle the progression of this disease and give relief to your pet if began on time.

Dental Care: Dogs dental health is often something which is overlooked by owners. This is mainly because dogs will not show any discomfort unless the dental problem is very advanced. Periodontitis is the most common problem seen which stems from a continual build up of plaque .It weakens teeth and leads to formation of gingivitis which is extremely painful for your pet. The fundamental measure for healthy teeth is to have your pet on a dry food diet. I advise regular checkups with your vet to assess their teeth. A dental clean involving de-scaling and polish has huge benefits in keeping your pets teeth strong and healthy.
