Pet obesity is on the increase. Many pets are over fed and under exercised and being overweight is almost the biggest contributor to pet health problems and trips to the vet.Yet it is a preventable problem.!
The main health concerns associated with, or aggrevated by, a gain in weight are:
- Arthritis & joint degeneration
- High blood pressure
- Cardiac Disease
- Respiratory distress
- Diabetes
Most owners are unaware of what their pets weigh and indeed what they should weigh.Weight gain can be more common in certain breeds and neutered pets so it is important to feed a high quality food, specific to the lifestage and activity level of your pet. Here are some tips to help owners recognise if your pet is carrying too much weight.
- Is your pet’s waist visible?
- Can you feel your pet’s ribs?
- Does his/her belly hang down?
The length and quality of an animals life is greatly reduced by obesity.
The simple solution? Exercise more and make better food choices
